Funny thing about dogs---

My dog is spoiled. He has been served gourmet meals. He’s pampered with grooming-he gets his teeth brushed for him. I don’t even go to a day spa ever. He has a backyard to run in and has plenty of neighborhood squirrels to bark at. On a regular basis, he eats tons of dog cookies for doing mediocre tricks. He’s often told, “You’re a lucky dog”.

Sound familiar?

Winter is rolling around here in northern California so his grandpa thought a nice, new, cozy place would be the right thing for him. Out of the kindness of his heart, grandpa got busy with a custom new dog house, complete with wall-to-wall carpet. The place even has a porch!

Well-the dog won’t move in. He lies on the porch of the dog house. He snuggles up against the outside of his house. He just won’t go in. Even when it’s raining, he still prefers the wet lawn.

Maybe he was scared of the dark dog house. So, lights on a timer were installed---seriously. Still no dog in the doghouse. Then grandpa made it extra cozy with a very small space heater…imagine, a warm place on a chilly night. Nope, nada, forget it-he just won’t go in.

I suppose deep inside, he remains a Dog. He’s not a People, so in his book some things don’t fly for him and Doghouses are one of them. He is wearing his winter coat and possibly that’s good enough.

Dogs are smart and perhaps the joke is on us. Maybe in his dog-mind he’s wondering how far grandpa will go to get him to move in. After all, grandpa did try luring him in the doghouse with treats, this may be part of his “doggy” strategy to get more stuff.

If grandpa goes to Best Buy for plasma TV sized for the doghouse-then I’ll know for sure.

Kitchen Adventures 101-Island Dog Coconut Kookies

Try this yummy, people grade cookie treat for your dog! He'll be your BFF for sure...

ISLAND DOG COCONUT KOOKIES

1 1/2 c. oat flour
1 1/2 c. brown rice flour
1 c. shredded coconut
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg
1 c. skim milk (or coconut milk)
1 tsp. vanilla

Preheat oven to 350deg. Combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly. Roll into small balls-about 1" in diameter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet, press each one to flatten.

Bake 18-22 minutes or until edges are golden. Cool completely on wire rack.

Store in airtight container in the refrigerator.
